For nearly 50 years, the Ramona Country Fair has been the highlight event of the summer season — and for good reason.
Carnival rides cast a colorful glow on the fairgrounds at the Ramona Outdoor Community Center, 421 Aqua Ln., while folks surround the Fred Grand Arena to watch everything from medieval reenactments to gymkhana competitions.
Indulgent treats, like funnel cake and sweet drinks, are much-needed fuel, and several food trucks will be on siteto offer fare ranging from Italian to ice cream. In addition, wine, beer and cider tastings will highlight local beverage makers.
The Country Fair will run from Aug. 1 to 4 this year, which means it will coincide the Ramona Junior Fair, which is set for July 27 to Aug. 4 and held at the adjacent junior fairgrounds.
Event chairperson Karen Domnitz is delighted to see the two events come together again, as a
show of livestock, handmade goods and other projects young participants have been diligently preparing go hand in hand with the Country Fair festivities.
And it’s not just the Junior Fair participants who will have the opportunity to compete — the Country Fair will feature an art show, Home Sweet Home cooking competition and a “Gong Show”-style talent event.
Sponsored by the Ramona Chamber of Commerce, Ramona Country Fair will also spotlight the Chamber’s new message of Ramona as the “Gateway to Adventure.”
“There will be an entire section dedicated to just outdoors and adventure opportunities around Ramona,” Domnitz says.
In addition, guests can enjoy performances by several bands, educational presentations and numerous vendors.
Admission to the fair is free, and parking is $10 per day, or $15 for all three days. Visit ramonachamber.com/ramona-country-fair.
Domnitz invites everyone to visit the fair not just because it is fun, but because it’s all for a good cause.
“The Chamber is a nonprofit, and proceeds from the fair go back into the community — including business development and scholarships,” she says.
Doing good has never tasted so sweet — or maybe that’s the cotton candy!
